4 Shot at Howe Park Sacramento — Large Unauthorized Party Ends in Shooting
Saturday night, an unsanctioned event of several hundred people at Howe Park in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade area descended into chaos when 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the area as Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies were actively dispersing the crowd.
The Incident
At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office received calls reporting individuals who may have been carrying concealed weapons at the park. A second caller indicated a reported fight and subjects running away.
Air support was called in and surveyed the area from above but failed to identify an active fight.
Even so, hundreds of individuals had collected at the park for what authorities described as an unsanctioned event. Law enforcement personnel positioned themselves around the park, turned on their emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes instructing attendees to vacate the area through their vehicle PA systems.
As law enforcement was clearing the area, 20 to 25 rounds of gunfire echoed through the area — causing hundreds to flee in all directions at once.
Those Injured
Four gunshot victims — three men and one website woman, each in their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one with moderate injuries, and one had minor injuries. All four victims were stable. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department assisted with on-scene medical triage at the incident scene.
The Investigation Scene
